There is a light that will never go out...
It is with deepest regret that we announce the following death:
David Lightowler
In October 2009 the SVP conference of Our Lady Immaculate and St Francis was re-formed. There had been a conference at St Francis church some years ago but this had gone into abeyance. As some churches in Bradford were closed or united with others, the two churches of St Francis and the Immaculate Conception were amalgamated to form one parish whilst still retaining the two churches. In 2008 Father Pat Wall became our parish priest and he began to work to bring the two churches closer together. One of his ideas was to re-institute the SVP conference. We started in October 2009 and David Lightowler was one of those founding members.
David was a very enthusiastic member of the conference and loved to visit people,especially the older members of the parish, who make up the biggest group that we visit. Sadly in 2011 he became ill with cancer and although his treatment initially appeared to be successful, the cancer spread to his brain and he died on December 20th 2011. This was a sad blow to his family and the many friends he had in the parish and around the city of Bradford and beyond. He will be greatly missed by our conference.
