Support Centres
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2 |
Drop-in support centres enable the SVP to reach into the heart of the communities where services are most needed and to provide hospitality to all. Two SVP support centres in Leeds and Newcastle provide the socially excluded with services dedicated to their needs. The centres provide a range of services based upon the needs of the local area. Some of the current services include debt counselling, IT training, basic numeracy and literacy classes, travel vouchers, information and advice, clothing provision and hot food.
In 2010/2011, more than 5,000 users benefited from the centres.
- A total of 45 volunteers gave an average of 360 hours each week to ensure a high-quality service at the Support Centres
In addition, in Leeds and Newcastle the debt and general counselling service helped many individuals on a low income, struggling with financial difficulties to plan for the future and deal with the myriad of issues, both practical and psychological, associated with poverty.
